11th BUDAPEST ARCHITECTURE FILM DAYS

APOCALYPSE LATER | 7-10 MARCH 2019

11th BUDAPEST ARCHITECTURE FILM DAYS | GREETINGS BY THE ORGANIZERS

Dear Festival Guests, Architecture, City and Film Fans,

Apocalypse? Later! Again, we have entered the era of unstrained construction. Global urban development gathers insane pace. The construction industry players have hardly any time to breath. Few care about the environmental and social consequences, faith in technology seems unbroken, while our planet is dancing on the edge of apocalypse.

However, Budapest Architecture Film Days is defying the end of the world. Again, the festival awaits anyone interested in beautiful movies, in contemporary architecture embedded in human stories. The organizer Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre has selected films with apocalyptic narratives this year The cinema screen will be filled with motion pictures of human communities battling against environmental pollution and climate change, shrinking cities and camps accommodating masses of war refugees. You will also have a chance to see what people thought about the future half a century ago, when the US and the Soviet Union firmly believed in technology solving every single problem of our human world.

The questions are still similar today. How much more can we build on this planet and for how long? How long will the unstoppable growth and the building craze last? Does urban development
become more democratic with the use of video games or drones? How will construction industry change if ground floor entrances are replaced with top-level runways? And where could one hide if someone would pull the handbrake instead?

Put your work aside, and come to Toldi Cinema between 7-10 May 2019, where we delay the apocalypse with another
year. Do you live in a house? Do you love films? Then let us meet at the 11th Budapest Architecture Film Days.

Love,
The Organisers

11th BUDAPEST ARCHITECTURE FILM DAYS | GREETINGS BY GRAPHISOFT

Dear Film Lovers,

Everything is connected to everything else and constantly interacts back and forth. The world’s infinite labyrinth of repetitive, connected and evasive parts of the world: stick, canvas, flag, space, time, mass, master, disciple, man, technology, house, city, stone, nature, society, art, science, architecture.

GRAPHISOFT, which has been growing and developing for more than 30 years, is part and parcel of this great whole, in constant interaction with Hungarian and international architecture, providing creative and constantly evolving solutions.

As the supplier of one of Hungarian architectural society’s most important tools, it is important for us to have a diverse and colourful, yet professional, artistic and cultural environment from which our company grew at that time, and which still surrounds us today. We believe it is our responsibility to play an active role in the community’s initiatives above and beyond the day-to-day events of our professional and business lives. We are pleased to support the thought-provoking, discourse-inspiring Architecture Film Days.

Because we, too, live in buildings, love cinema, and love movies.
We wish you good fun, lots of new ideas and memorable conversations!
